Bert Blue- Piper of renown From beautiful haunting melodies that stir your soul to rousing dance tunes that bring you to your feet, Bert's brilliant mastery of the complex fingering and the exacting rhythms of the Great Highland Bagpipes is phenomenal. Beyond the flashy fingering is the expression and emotion that can only be heard from true masters of this instrument. Bert Blue has played and recorded the pipes all across America in concert and for film, theatre, radio and television. He has piped for champion dancers, foreign dignitaries, British royalty and Snoopy. Bert began learning to play at six from his father, Pipe Major David M. Blue, a gold medallist in piping. Later, he continued his study under the world renowned Pipe Major Donald Shaw Ramsay, BEM, (late of the 10th Battalion Highland Light Infantry, the back-to-back world champion City of Edinburgh Police Pipe Band and the InverGordon Distillery Pipe Band. Bert's virtuoso playing crosses a broad spectrum, having piped for the likes of: HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York; Libus Montgomery, seven-time All-Scotland Highland dance champion and former Miss Scotland; Jacques Cousteau and the crew of the Calypso; for British Navy vessels, including HMS Fearless and HMS Londonderry sailing home from the Falklands; for corporations such as Paramount Motion Pictures, Universal Studios, Bally's/New Paris on the Strip in Las Vegas, Macy's, and as a representative for many fine Highland Whiskys; also for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; for charitable groups such as the American Cancer Society, Roots of Peace and The Nature Conservancy; in memorials to the Fallen of September 11th; and in music and folk festivals and clubs- singing as well as playing celtic guitar and other instruments.
